The activists of Sri Rama Sena entered the Amnesia Bar and Restaurant on Dr Shivaram Karanth Road on Saturday evening and threatened the women sitting inside. The men, who took objection to women drinking alcohol, pushed them outside, many women falling to the ground while they were being driven out.

Mangalore North Circle inspector Umesh G Shet said a group of 10-15 men entered the pub in the evening and started arguing with the guests. ``They got into an altercation with the women customers saying they were dressed indecently,'' he said.










The men also told the women that they would face dire consequences if they were seen in pubs again. The group left the bar after threatening its owner.

The incident drew instant criticism from various sections of the society, who strongly condemned the moral policing by members of the Sri Rama Sena, which was involved in violence during Karnataka's Cauvery water dispute with neighbouring Tamil Nadu.

Police have arrested 13 men in connection with the incident.

Police said those arrested were activists of Sri Rama Sena The arrested Sena activists claimed that they carried out the attack ``because of the attitude of the young women'', police sources said.

The Sena activists accused the women of ``involving themselves in immoral activities, including consuming alcohol, dressing indecently, and mixing with youths of other faith''.

The men will be produced in a court on Tuesday.

The arrests came after police questioned the owner of the pub and customers present there at the time of the incident. ``The owner was initially reluctant to file a complaint, but relented after we assured him of police protection,'' said inspector Umesh Shet.

Police are looking for Shashidhar Shetty, a local Sri Rama Sene leader, and Preetham, a student leader, for issuing comments supporting the violent incident. Umesh Shet said they would be arrested on charges of conspiring with those who were involved in the attack.

The Sena was also responsible for the attack on the Bangalore home of Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi's daughter Selvi during the Cauvery protests in September 2007.

Sri Rama Senais a pro-Hindu apolitical organization based in Hubli and promoted by Promod Mutalik, who floated the organization after parting ways with the BJP a few years ago. The organization is known for celebrating all Hindu festivals on a grand scale. But is infamous for creating communal tensions and moral policing. It claims to be a ``protector'' of swadeshi ideology and Hindutva.

Let me begin by saying God have mercy on Kuldeep Verma and always remember his contribution for Amarnath land and the Hindu faith.


I am deeply disturbed by the situation in Jammu and condemn the actions of the PDP, NC, and Jammu police. I appeal to all Jammu residents and all Hindus to come together on one united platform against PDP and NC. The Muslims are creating a huge problem and the people are now seeing the real face of the PDP and NC. Both of these political parties would like to destroy Jammu & Kashmir. I am very happy the people and Hindu groups, including the Shiv Sena, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal, and RSS are protesting the government's decision to manage on its own the annual Hindu pilgrimage to the Himalayan cave shrine in south Kashmir, and I give them my full support.


The Governor is responsible for the situation and he should quit the state. Mr. Vohra is favoring a particular ideology with a definite mindset while suppressing the voice of nationalists. Mr. Vohra played a political card and supported fundamentalism, which deteriorated the situation in Jammu turning the agitation more aggressive and violent.


The time has now come for Jammu to create its own political party. The party should fight for the rights of Jammu and its Hindu people because the PDP and NC are both thinking only for the interests of Kashmiri Muslims. They no longer have any interests in Jammu and its Hindu minorities. The PDP is responsible for the whole situation, including the terrorism in Jammu & Kashmir. The PDP and NC are not true political parties, they are fundamentalists with Muslim terrorist interests. They do not represent Jammu & Kashmir's interests. They have interests only in power. The Government of India should become involved in the matter immediately. Otherwise the matter is going to go out of control, spread across India, and become completely unmanageable.


I am surprised that the Prime Minister of India is sleeping. He does not know what is going on in Jammu. The Home Minister of India is absolutely useless. I have never seen someone in this role behave so negligently. He is intentionally ignoring the police brutality but I am watching him and I would like to tell the Indian Government that we are not going to stand by and let this happen. We will be taking action if they do not.


I would also like to take the opportunity to refresh the memory of the Kashmiri political parties, the Hurriyat Conference, and the PDP and NC. They should remember how I handled Abdul Gani Lone after the attack on the most-revered Raghunath temple. I roughed him up badly to make the point that we will not tolerate those who do not recognize the Constitution and law of the country. It looks like the time has come to repeat the lesson. At the time I roughed up Lone I was President of the Shiv Sena in Jammu & Kashmir. Today, I am the President of the Shri Ram Sena International, which has a much bigger arm.


This is the time for all Hindus who have faith on Lord Shiva to support Shri Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti. My organization and I are ready to help in whatever ways necessary. I appeal to all Hindus the world over to condemn the situation in Jammu & Kashmir and I warn the Prime Minister of India: Do not take this matter lightly. The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board needs the land back. I appeal to the Jammu people not to resort to suicide. This is not the answer. We must stay strong in battle. All American and UK Hindus are supporting the people of Jammu. Once again, Shri Ram Sena International is ready to help Jammu & Kashmir Hindu people in whatever ways necessary.
