Shilpa shetty -Turns a year older
She played host for the Indian version of Celebrity Big Brother, the Bigg Boss where Jade Goody was one of the inmates.
A gorgeous face and a ravishing figure that sets many a hearts racing, that perhaps sums up Shilpa Shetty. On her birthday, we take a quick look at her career and why she still hits the headlines. 
With no film background, but enough confidence for starters, Shilpa Shetty joined Bollywood.
She came to be considered 'star' material when her very first film, 'Baazigar' where she was paired opposite Shahrukh Khan became a hit. Her role, though a small one, was full of substance and one expected her to hit it off big from there itself, but this was not to be.
She has appeared in nearly 40 Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada language films since her first leading role being in the 1994 Aag.
The first ever 'big' hit of her career came with 'Dhadkan' where she starred opposite Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty, the film was the year's biggest musical hit.
She was also seen in movies like Rishtey, Andaz, Junoon, Jung, Indian, Tarkieb, Karz, Phir Milenge and Dus.
Shilpa Shetty, with her unconventional looks, may have worked with the A listers including Shahrukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Govinda and even Amitabh Bachchan, but her career has remained inert.
Then came the TV show Celebrity Big Brother in 2007. This changed Shilpa's life.
An international racism controversy involving her and fellow contestants Jade Goody, shot Shilpa into an international celebrity just overnight. She went on to win the contest too.
To an extent, this added a spurt of movies to her kitty, with her performance getting good reviews. And that was not the only controversy. A kiss on stage with Richard Gere sent fanatics against her.
This year around Shilpa Shetty turned entrepreneur and had her stakes in the Rajasthan Royals, a team in the IPL. There is sure more of Shilpa to set our hearts a flutter.
